When the first trailer for KotM came out, I showed it to several normie family members, and more of them recognized and specifically namedropped Rodan than either Mothra or King Ghidorah. It was especially notable when for my boomer grandparents recognized him, because despite not being kaijufags in the slightest, they remembered Rodan as one of the first films they ever saw in color. Rodan also shows up as a cameo in numerous American and British TV shows, and he has appeared multiple times in the Simpsons. So while he's no Godzilla or King Kong, I wouldn't undersell Rodan's notoriety in the west. He's certainly more recognizable than the myriad of C-List Marvel villains who made it to the big screen.
