I remember when they started to give Monster High dolls longer dresses because parent groups started to bitch about how the dolls butt would hang out of the dress when the doll would bend over. The whole point of those dolls was that they were sassy, unique, and could "Be themselves"
With Ariel they are still testing the waters, but Jasmin's new outfit is not a winter or seasonal outfit. It's her new permanent outfit. It upset a few people and pleased a bunch of feminist groups when it happened. You can google it to find news stories about it which of course celebrate the progressive change.
