there's only so much time an average parent has with their kids. They'll inevitably form their own opinions talking to kids in school or watching stuff on their own. Most parents are too focused on getting by in general to impede the nostalgia on their kids. I don't think kids interest in nostalgic properties is wholly inorganic,sometimes a kid can just think a cool toy is a cool toy.
I took my nephew out shopping the other day, he saw a gumby dog toy. I asked him how he knew gumby and he said one of the kids in his class had a little gumby toy and they were all checking it out after school. I watched Gumby as a kid on reruns, but it's really before my time or my sister's so I imagine that kid's parents aren't Gumby superfans or anything. But these kids knew gumby and liked him just because they thought it was a funky little toy I guess.
