They saw "hey it's a dinosaur and he has a sword and no mouth, good enough". You can also mis-transform the Dinobot mold so the beast head is behind the toy, but I don't think Hasbro planned that. But yeah, we were a fresh-off-G2 Hasbro, so we're lucky Grimlock even got that much.
