>>9642660That's her official name and she was the token female in the first year, and was going to originally use the male body they used for the other figures in the original 13, and even sport the same green helment. The first 6 years had a token female, since little boys didn't care for females(unlike adult collectors): Covergirl in wave 2 who was packed in as a vehicle driver since she wouldn't sell well single carded. Baroness was added in wave 3 after she was popular in the comics when Larry Hama created her. Hasbro decided however that Baroness wasn't very sexy, and that she looked frumpy in the blue jumpsuit, which was what she wore when Hama made her and what she wore in the first cartoon mini-series. The re-design had her in a leather dominatrix outfit, and the comics explained that she got hotter after she was blown up while driving a Hisstank and had to get plastic surgery. Then for the 4th year, the token was Lady Jaye, then in the 5th year of the line Zarana. 6th year we got Jinx(no Pythona since it was one token a year). Then from 88 until 93 there was no females for 5 years when Ninja Force Scarlett and her repaint/retool Chun-Li were released.
>they arent portrayed as damsels in distress What about in the Cobra Civil War where Baroness was a literal damsel in distress tied to a Hisstank and paraded around on the cover of a comic? There's quite a few instances in both the comics and cartoons where they were.
