Literally, canon is just what whoever is in charge of that IP on a corporate level considers to be canon (the only reason anyone really cares about what is or isn't canon is because how it will affect the evolution of that IP going forward on a corporate level), but, yeah, in the end, the only canon that ever matters is what each fans holds in their hearts - all this bullshit screaming about what is or isn't canon is futile from both ends of the spectrum.
