>>10862147People in the costume/design section usually know or research the source material but the producers and directors who give the final word want their products to be "something new, fresh, original" and all those buzzwords that means two things: a) this is MINE now and I want MY way, b) we want to copyright this for the future so it must be original enough to get some bucks in any case. Also they want to be different enough that you can know in a glance what is Daredevil and what is Netflix's Daredevil.
They win a few shekels and some back pats (usually from themselves) and we lost any chance of a decent adaptation. You can spot when the producers want to do something good, like picrel. It's a great compromise between source material/budget/production aesthetics
