This week I opened up three Origins related dudes. ToG Raphael, Serpent Claw Man-at-Arms, and Hulk Hogan. Serpent Claw Man-at-Arms is my least favourite by far.
As far as repaints go its nowhere near as lazy as naked Stratos. I like the colors, they are odd but really striking. Since this whole line has turned into Snakers of the Snakeverse, the choice to revisit this obscure version of Duncan is solid. He's got a new weapon, and I think helmet sculpt is new to. So that makes this repaint feel less of a cash grab because Mattel did try a little.
But they should have tried a little harder.
The claw itself looks like it should do something and it doesn't do shit. I knew from the back of the box that it wasn't a spring loaded missile (fuck the what can't toys do this anymore?) but I did think it was going to be hinged in the center for grabbing snakes. Doesn't do that either. Maybe it's action feature is falling off Duncan's arm because that's what it seems to do most of the time.
My other complaint is lack of paint details. Compared to the paint on Raphael's armor it just seems really bland. Would it have cost that much more to put a little silver on the helmet or blue on the center tank on his chest?
In the end, I would compare him to a goth girl who doesn't put out. Looks uniquely great under the moonlight but doesn't let you have the fun you want. Then you notice her makeup is shitty, so you shrug and go back to your mall punk gf that looks like Avril who is better put together and more fun to hang with.
