In fact they probably only make toy sales look larger and the volume of returns barely a side note in the reports passed up to managers and analysts. The board gets told retail is doing okay and the returns are just averaged in with the hundreds of thousands of dollars they're already budgeting for.
Amazon straight up sells chinese knock-offs and so many other toys of questionable quality that two or three Batman figures getting sent back isn't even unusual.
