An approach that's worked for me is to check out the tubs with bad photos. This indicates the seller isn't knowledgable about the Lego aftermarket because they don't know that the value is heavily dependent on the content. They pretty much think Lego is fungible and 5kg of Lego is just 5kg of Lego. Maybe they price it at $20 per kg because that's the general Lego price when they googled it for 2 minutes.
On the surface it may seem like a box of just basic bricks in low resolution, which is why no one grabbed it before you. But look closely and use your autistic knowledge to figure out what's really in there (unique printed pieces, boat hulls, panels, minifigs, etc). If you ask the seller for more photos they might send some with more detail too. But often they can't be bothered.
Living in a smaller city/town can work in your favour too. Yes there are fewer sellers near you, but there are also fewer buyers to grab local good deals before you see them.
