This was the same era where Hasbro was referencing a comedy edit of a comic where Hot Shot is implied to have anal sex with his minicon.
Granted Black Shadow being a Thunderwing remold in the first place is a larger reason why it happened, but Black Shadow was memed enough into relevance to get a TR figure too. And while they might've shelfwarmed in your area, both Overlord and Black Shadow go for big money these days.
