the way i've added "plot armor" to my lifelong toy lore is that the physical toys have "imagination souls" and when i'm done with a certain group of toys, their "imagination souls" are extracted and go into other new toys. Similar to Transformers/Beast Wars "sparks" finding new vehicles/animals (and i was a big Beast Wars 90s kid). other toys can go into "cryo" states where they kinda zone out for years -- i arrived at this because honestly it's a natural ability a toy would need if they were truly sentient.
these mechanisms have allowed me to be more fluid in my collection throughout the years without fear of internal conflict. I had also considered this internal conflict and jealousy, and guilt of toys being discarded/thrown away, and basically built up this rationale as a coping mechanism
