>>10105193That’s a fair point but I also feel like the Universal monster craze was something that happened later on (more 60s than the time frame when these movies were new). There’s a really great website called the Gallery of Monster Toys that’s talks about this and has a ton of pictures of vintage monster toys.
The Freddy Matchbox doll actually did cause controversy though. (albeit some from religious fundie groups). It even led to the cancellation of a line called Maxx FX (a special FX themed line whose first and only set had a Freddy costume).
I honestly find merch like this and the Kenner Alien to be dope but these kinda of “controversies” are interesting footnotes.
