Mattel took over Mega the same year D&D sets were coming out so by then it was too late to consider that option. As it was the Kre-O line flopped and much of it ended up clearanced or liquidated, a fate shared by Mega's AssCreed, Destiny and Terminators to my personal benefit but unfortunately to the detriment of the brand long-term.
Would say that Mega's ambitions to expand their lineup with more video game licenses combined with over-producing some of their Halo and CoD waves started the downward slide that only turned into a spiral once Mattel took the reins; I remember what felt at the time like peak Mega when I found an entire shelving island at Walmart packed with boxes of Halo Series 6 (the series that introduced secret chase figures; previous series had a "secret" fig that was shown on the checklist but 6 had three different colours of active-camo Elites nowhere referenced on the list). Incidentally this was 2013, a year before the Mattel takeover and every Halo Series after it showed a steady decline in boxes on shelves.
