Each company makes various characters in their lines. Each character release from each company varies in quality from one to another. Most ppl don't shop by company as much as by character, and scale is a factor. Some runs have paint defects, some have weak joints, some have poor plastics. And then a completely different character in the same company is well made.
But it sounds like you don't own any japanese dolls, so if you're seriously considering buying something, find a character that you like, and compare if multiple companies each make a version of it. It can get expensive, so another option if you're just getting your feet wet and you have no experience with these, buy a bootleg. (understand that the quality will be lower) but then you're not in $50+ on a doll.
