It makes sense in a corporate, money grabbing sense, but I think it dilutes the product. The budget is spread across the different lines, and the figures are either badly engineered or just shoddily made. Plus you have so many different versions of Optimus Prime, Megatron, Bumblebee, and to an extent Starscream.and Gimlock on the shelves, and they all look either the same or look like crap.
With a singular line, like we had from Beast Wars to Unicron Trilogy, the focus was to make a single line of good toys that we hadn't seen before. So kids and us older fans would be invested in buying new stuff over the years. Now it's just a bunch of crap or bunch of boring 80s stuff.
