Because of the production methods involved, garage kits are produced in small batches which makes them both rare and (relatively) expensive. They are also (relatively) lower quality as compared to injection molded plastic kits.
Some model/figure manufacturers also make garage kits using the same production methods so their kits are just as rare and expensive and while the quality is usually higher they still require a lot more work compared to the injection plastic kits.
