Done. The reference I'm going off of is from some parade, so weathering's even lighter than I usually do. Still, there is a dot filter and some pigments in there. The mask set also came with decals for what I assume is anti-laser-coated optics, so I thought I might as well use them. Contrast's a bit stark to be honest, so I don't see myself going out to buy them on their own for anything, but I guess they spice things up a bit.
>>10662483When I did Yamato I noticed that most of the things that'd be a real bloody nightmare about the railings were back around the "airfield", so I just let the railings stop just after the wooden deck section did.
>>10662705I first spray on a diluted mix of matte varnish and buff or deck tan for the more heavily dusted bits. Then when it's dot filter time I tend to run a lot of yellow ochre in the to-be-dusted regions (though this is negotiable if I'm aiming at a different dust colour). Then finally I slap on a good amount of pigments, usually a first light run of a dark brownish grey I have followed by a more generous coat of a light sand hue (again, in the rare cases I want a different dirt colour this will be adapted accordingly). The idea being that both pigment passes are somewhat uneven, so the layer gives things more life overall.
Now how good the end result of all this is... Well, it's how I did the StuG anon used as the OP photo, so you can judge for yourself. Though shortcomings there will obviously also be a matter of skill.
