>>7236914I think it’s a bit of a give and take kind of issue. You look at stuff done back in the day and a lot of the techniques where pretty laughable and even when done by a guy with 30+ years of experience look arguably equal or worse then someone’s 3rd or 4th go at weathering with just pigment powder and a random mud product. A great example is pic related which was done by Shepard Paine and is even displayed in tamyia’s headquarters in japan. You can really tell it looks fake and just does not hold up with even average level techniques of now even any shading appears to be none existent. I think part of it also stems from the fact under standing and availability of information on a lot of subjects only came into its own with the internet allowing people outside of historians and people lucky enough to have access to very specific books to get pretty detailed information on there subjects. A degree of creativity has been lost, but a greater knowledge of the subjects although has been gained
