I am using 3d printers for production, and the ability to make small adjustments to my product without having to reinvest in molds or tooling has been a huge benefit over the past year. I don't think I ever would have sold as many nor would have I been able to manage the labor requirements of casting to get to my 300th shipped item.
Casting scales tremendously in difficult and decreases in practicality by the volume/size of the parts you need to reproduce. As well as the materials properties and dimensional tolerances you need from those parts.
