A few years ago I used to make my own creations with my brothers Bionicle sets and came up with my own story about them. I then discovered BZPower and wrote the story as an epic on there.
It was the most popular story on the Epics board for almost a year, I'd post new chapters every few days and I had dozens of regular readers, the discussion thread was always at the top of the board and definitely got close to triple digits in pages.
I'm not necessarily proud of any of that, but it was a pretty fun time. Just putting my little daydreams on paper and having a bunch of kids discuss what happened and theorise on what would happen next.
There was even (really bad) fan art that people did.
