Assuming it wasn't a larp, I'll cut that guy a break since he's 44+ and the collecting itself was apparently making him miserable, but there's so many girls in their 20's-30's that are into anime, video games, and collectibles at this point. And if you can't/don't want to find one, all you have to do is introduce them to something that appeals to them to act as a gateway.
