They use to release really neat sci-fi based sets in the $100-$200 range and then they'd often go on sale and could be used in combination with discount codes. Generally they'd price things at a really high msrp and then if it didn't sell out quick, offer more and more sale incentives, to a point where getting 30-50% off on a set was fairly normal.
At some point in the last couple years, retired Brickmania stuff started going for a lot more than msrp and people just started buying the sets at the super high initial msrp. I guess they built up enough brand recognition to do so. Even the owner said they charge so much for their stuff because they're able to do so. All of their new release figures use to be like $15 and that's gone up to $25-$50 and anything new or desirable sells out in less than a hour.
But yeah, paying $6500 taxes in for a tan lego box is insane.
