>>8091827Crossed out the ones that are fine as redraws. Redraws are common practice by a lot of modern artists and they tend to be stylistic takes of an existing image, the live-action ones being the most blatant. If you remove the ones I crossed out, you've got a better image going.
The bottom ones don't even deserve being used as examples with the Elizabeth one just copying the style while the right one is just bad art.

I disagree. It's one thing to trace and reiterate an image in your style (like the live-action/cosplay ones), it's another thing when your own style clashes against the thing you're tracing and it becomes more apparent when you compare it with the original artwork that shows what it originally looked like under a cohesive style. There's nothing "graceful" about that.
One of the worst examples there is the artwork of Ryougi Shiki (top right) that has his pseudo-realistic face slapped on while blatantly copying the simplistic art style of Takeuchi. Takeuchi draws his characters in very sharp geometric shapes, both in their clothes and their anatomy/faces. Ilya didn't even bother changing the style of the folds in the clothes and it makes for a jarring piece. If anything it shows how he misunderstands the artwork he's using as his basis. Another example that's not included in this pic (I think other versions of that same infographic had it) was his drawing of Lain which had the same issue wherein he retained the chunkier proportions of the artist's style without meshing it well with his pseudo-realistic style.
Now it's one thing to educate people about this from an artistic perspective, it's another thing to disregard valid criticism with petty insults just because you disagree with them.
