USPS reporting in
Sorry about any bad experiences.
>>7139155The USPS is one of the largest companies in the world. We have over a half of a million career employees and we do 47% of all the worlds mail - 149 billion mail-pieces in 2017. Last year the post office processed 36 1/2 million address changes. (keep in mind all the people that didn't move at all). We have over 30 thousand post offices.
As you can see, there are more opportunities for stuff to go wrong, just by virtue of the sheer numbers involved. It sucks that some people have bad experiences, but the vast majority of people get competent or better service. We wouldn't be able to operate any other way.
Though to put your mind at ease a little... Its a Federal law for us to deliver the mail. We literally have no choice in the matter. So most carriers will be competent for that reason alone. However many carriers also want to do the best they can as a point of pride.
Often when there is a problem, its because of a newbie that is covering your Mailman's off day. This applies to clerks and other mail handlers as well in the facilities.
USPS is a massive organization. The bar we have set is really high, so it becomes easy to look at out failures, and people end up taking for granted what we get right on a daily basis. We strive to be the best. Because we wouldn't exist without you.
