Not sure if anyone's pointed this out yet (or if anyone cares), but I've noticed that the Combat Staffs the playset Hordika minifigs use aren't random designs. They're actually based on the large counterparts' Toa tools. It's that, aside from Vakama's (it' clearly designed to mimic his Blazer Claws), they're all shuffled.
Mistake? Random? Not really, since all 2005 playsets are internally consistent with it (that is, the Hordika minifigs never swap their staffs with eachother). I imagine that, much like the 2007 playsets (which, among other things, include 2-3 minifigs that simply don't represent any canon character), the new parts and the sets were designed by someone outside the main Bionicle team who simply didn't bother to do some research.
At least those staff resemble their large counterparts. I still don't know what half of the 2006 minifig weapons are supposed to represent.
