Those teeth were just rolled between my fingers and laid out in a curve to shape them, and the gums are from smooshing the apoxie putty up against the inside of the box and pressing the hardened teeth into it. The only other sculpting I've done myself was artificers tunic, where I sculpted over the torso of the base figure and smoothed it into the shape I wanted. I use 3d modeling and 3d printing for a lot of my pieces these days.
In my experience, the best practice is working on something you're excited about. It's just so much more compelling.
