Seeing all of the Yo-kai toys hit the clearance bin, even knowing that the series isn't going to die anytime soon (despite /v/ being sure it is) is depressing.
There's still multiple versions of the watch to come out and new Yo-kai to be shown (Hasbro showed a 2D picture of the new watch this year, but can't show a physical toy until it appears in the anime.)
I think Hasbro scooped this franchise up because of their extreme success with Pokemon in the 90's. They just assumed that big in Japan would instantly mean big in America, but they didn't take into account Nintendo of America's lack of advertising when it wasn't an overnight sensation, the anime going to Disney XD (where anime goes to die, instead of Cartoon Network weekend afternoons like other countries,) and the absolutely insulting localization changes.
This series could have been huge if all of the right pieces were connected, but right now the puzzle is thrown all over the table and everyone seems to be waiting on someone else to pick up the first piece.
If Hasbro continues to support the series (which they will, given that they showed at least some pictures and anime clips this year at some random convention,) then new toys should start up again by 2018. Whether or not they'll actually TRY to sell them is another story altogether.
I could go into detail on the mistakes their making, but no one gives a shit.
tl;dr - Hasbro fucking sucks.
