I'm not sure I agree but I do feel like it's a lot easier to fuck up this aesthetic and especially if you're going for meta builds I feel like you'll see a lot more eyesores in the coming months.
Just putting each together in a lineup I do feel like the elegance of BX that drew me in (well, back in, I had some plastic gen's as a kid) is getting eroded away over time.
