Just got my Takara Kup in. Hot damn, what a toy. I purposely avoided Hasbro Kup because I wanted to have a go at this version, first, but I'll probably pick up Hasbro if I see him because I do like the garish colors and grumpy-ass face sculpt on that one, plus the dual cannons are sweet.
And man, the old Generations Sergeant Kup used to be one of my all-time favorites, but this thing blows it out of the water in just about every way that matters. The transformation is involved and well-engineered. Every part of each mode gets used with practically ZERO kibble resulting. Meanwhile, Sergeant Kup, while having a higher parts count and more articulation, was awash with kibble. Over half his alt mode just hung off of him or got in the way, from the inexcusable forearm-doors, to the half-an-entire-truck-cab backpack, and even the stupid wheels-on-sticks that jutted out from his shoulders that didn't peg into anything.
It all boils down to what I've been saying about new Generations figures vs. old. Yes the older ones were technically more complex, less hollow and had higher parts counts overall, but the new ones are engineered WAY better to make use of what they have. New toys actually look like a robot that transforms into a vehicle, while older ones just look like a robot that's wearing a vehicle for armor.
