>>10739722Mattel's car was $215 and touted to have the following features.
>A pull-out rack for storing the removable proton packs that come with the new 6” Peter and Ray figures (sold separately).>The headlights of the Ecto-1 will flash and the beacon will light up with both blue and red lights.>The doors and trunk of the Ecto-1 will actually open so you can get your 6” figures and their gear inside!>The authentic Ecto-1 signature ambulance siren lets bystanders know the Ecto-1 is coming.>The Ecto-1 features engine revving sounds recreated to sound just like in the film!Matty shot themselves in the foot by not forward thinking with their previously released Ghostbuster figures, which had non-removable Proton Packs, and wouldn't be able to fit in the car. Thus, removable pack busters were offered alongside the car as $50 two-packs. People saw this as an essential $100 expense tacked on to the price of the car (what good is a 1:12 Ecto if the figures can't sit in it?), so a $215 Ecto-1 ended up looking more like a $315 Ecto-1.
To make matters worse, no physical prototype was made, only a cardboard cutout was shown along with the list of features. MattyCollector didn't exactly have the best track record at that point in time. The Back To The Future creator was so disappointed in how their Hoverboard turned out that he issued a public apology to all the fans who bought one. There was also their foam Stay Puft debacle, which was breaking down and yellowing right out of the box for a lot of people. There was understandable apprehension about putting that much money down on a sight unseen MattyCollector product.
A Haslab would have a physical model to show, and people wouldn't need to spend an extra $100 on car compatible figures, but $300 seems like wishful thinking based on their other Haslabs. If they asked $350 for the Ghost Rider car I don't see them offering a bigger and more complex Ecto-1 for less than $400.
