I take probably every issue with this video.
I love BEC, his load experimenting videos are absolute youtube kino, but this was fucking stupid. The issues I take with it are A. that it's functionally useless. B. That it uses a shitload of the same reductions to hit is arbitrary limit, and C. That fucking sun gear has so much slop, so much play, that the little bit of energy making its way there is going to be lost. You're no longer looking at a Gogol in terms of time, you're looking at well beyond that. When rotational force FINALLY gets applied to that sun gear (one of the coolest, most visual parts of the system) there's going to be so much wiggle room between teeth that it's likely going to take multiple more rotations than he has estimated to make it move a single degree.
Now none of this is to say that I hate the concept, but rather the execution. The sungear should have been earlier in the build as to rotate probably once per hour. Something you can walk by and see moving however imperceptibly slow as it may have been. All the repeated reductions (namely that giant fucking eyesore of an eight-tooth : forty-tooth angled chunk, and the huge mess of snaking worm-on-sixteen gear blocks) should be nuked and replaced with more original, or interesting designs. The 168 on worm drive is neat, the chain driven 16 on 60 is great, that little 60 with a free floating 90 degree transfer is adorable, but FUCK I god damn HATE that fucking massive useless eye sore of a reduction.
>>8155921I would get more than one set on occasion when family would accidentally buy me more than one. Never took a problem with it, just more parts for me.
Children don't really buy battle packs the way TLG hopes they would, it's all AFOLs scalping them to resell to other AFOLS
If a set has a good chunk of nice pieces at a good price I wouldn't mind picking up more than one, even if BL would be cheaper.
