That crimson guard had about 20% of the emblem missing. (Thankfully the unit patch on the arm was mostly intact) I used a magnifying glass and some dull silver paint to patch it up. You mostly can't tell, but if the light hits it just right, you can see the parts I patched because the paint I used has a slightly different reflectivity.
Nowadays I mostly get rid of the old emblem completely use custom-made dry transfers.
