>>7338304>>7338301 After a lot of frustration I finally identified the problem - the slots on the jig are out of alignment by a decent margin. The single slot on a different facing however works fine. I talked to the model shop owner and showed him what was happening and he also thinks MENG will issue replacements, which I hope for because the end result has been several snapped pins on the track links, the damage and/or loss of quote a few of the external connector things the jig uses and a lot of headache. As you can see the track is kind of screwed but it'll do for now, I'm going to see how far I can get with making the other one but unless there's a lot of spares I doubt I can complete it. I've left a lot of slack in it because it pulls itself apart otherwise with the compromised connectors.
I'm treating it as a learning experience.
