In the mean time you can't recognize such deep details on creatures, so you are more likely to accept them as good, as you don't have it in your brain planted to refuse it if its a bit off.
I have checked the alien visual guide and on that one Jumpsuit Ripley looks horribly unconvincing, but on your picture she is pretty awesome. I guess it can differ from item-item based on how the painting turned out etc.
Also for example Queen Attack Bishop looks horribly fake as a human on most pics, but that is fine as he is supposed to be damaged and android-like by that point.
