og heman figures and how origins and japanese wacky monsters are my jam and hold up and are very charming
they have a balance between weird/spooky and cute, mass produced and a handmade quality instead of very clean and clinically perfect. Often nice bright colours and good materials.
I'm not too preoccupied with realistic depictions of actual people or franchises, and lots of older toys were more toys for the sake of being fun toys. Even if they had a cartoon or other reference, me not being there lets me enjoy the thing for what it is.
Also a big Lego man, and late 70s and 80s sets were really fun and still timeless.
Also packaging back then was really cool.
