It justifies alt modes, makes each toy feel like a mini-playset instead of just an action figure, and gives everything various levels of compatibility with everything else, probably why the Takara versions went the extra mile and included color-matching titanmaster vehicles or even Targetmasters as well as a full-color mini-comic that basically serves as an origin for the toy you just bought? Fucking stellar. That's how you make a toy feel like something worth owning. These days we can't even get a fucking bio because Hasbro is so cheap. Cartoonfags and casual nerds cried about "muh forced partsforming", but it was definitely the last time that mainline Transformers felt like toys that an actual kid would be excited to play with, and not some 40-something hamfister who's going to make a 20 minute youtube video talking about how accurate the bot mode is and how much he loves the ankle tilts before he sticks on on a shelf to collect dust for the next 2-4 years before it gets replaced.

Now they've got people paying $90 for shit that's barely even leader class because everyone showed them they'll empty their wallets for trash as long as it's accurate trash that panders to their sense of nostalgia.
