I know that the flashback is filler, but it's not like he was sitting in a room drinking scotch crying like a bitch when suddenly his hair turned yellow.
Also, Gohan had to go through some shit to turn SSJ1, and it's pretty common knowledge he went through hell to become SSJ2...which Caulifla apparently did on accident. You can argue that Cabba sort of earned his SSJ2 (and maybe even his SSJ transformation). But Kale and Kefla just doing this super powered shit on accident out of the blue is kind of dumb.
Still like the characters though.
