>>9031516It's self gatekeeping in a sense. The reason why we gatekeep is so that the cancerous normies don't begin to outnumber us and have more sway over the franchise. No matter what happens in America, this is still Toho's property, none of these people are going to start writing their own Godzilla movies, like what happened with American comics. Godzilla is more of a flavor of the month obsession for these people, the whole point of getting into a fandom is to infect it and change the product to cater to them and not the original fans, because that is almost impossible with a conservative Nip company, it's just not as attractive a target. The legendary movies are the closest they can get, especially considering how much audience feedback the studio took to heart.

She got me into Godzilla with Saturday morning marathons of the Heisei and Showa films on some Sci Fi channel, and the Bandai Movie Monster series. Point is, Goji did have reach in the states well before Tristar did their big push. The normie public will always inevitably forget about Godzilla over time if Hollywood isn't shoveling some new shit in their face, but Goji in the west has always been a sort of parent to child type fandom, as it should be frankly.
