>>11509245>I honestly think this is a bit of a reach.Guys wrong that it's a conspiracy, because it's no secret that companies like Hasbro were actively sabotaging their own 1:18 lines to funnel collectors into buying the more expensive option.
Cutting articulation on the MU line. Switching over to more reuse, without cutting their prices. Pushing the Black series to retailers, so the 3.75" line became a store exclusive.
All this happened because of the economic depression and consumers not buying as much stuff as before, so if consumers weren't going to buy as much shit, they wanted you to buy the more expensive option. So it's not even about profits, but more revenue. And revenue is sexier, because how many investors actually read about the bottom line and how many companies even like to reveal their profitability? Shit's all hidden behind a hundred million memes and buzzwords. We literally don't know which scale is more profitable, muchless know production costs, because they don't want to tell you. Revenue is basically all that matters and $20 is a bigger number than $12.
Today, sales are probably going down even more and production costs are going up, so if a company wants to maintain the same level of revenue as they did 5-3 years ago, it's easier to sell something that's more expensive, while having the same level of releases.
With publically traded companies like Hasbro, their revenue stream is always expected to go up year after year, and going down at any point could doom them. So they really can't look back and start up 1:18 scale ever again... as the main line, anyway, because that would be an automatic 45% dip in revenue even if the line successfully replaced the Classifed/Black series/Marvel Legends toyline.
BTW, there's that Fist of the North toyline that's ~3" that proves that even smaller figures with full articulation are completely double and can look great. So a little girl could be done that would please any lolishit collector.
