It looks stupid as fuck, it limits articulation, and is just completely unnecessary unless it's working in tandem with normal shoulder joints. People complained about these all the way back when they revealed renders for the damn thing and FT still didn't bother to change it.
I guess it doesn't really matter if you want them as individual bots, though
