I myself am new to this kind of detaling, but anyway basically what l'm doing is:
>Spray some parts in tamiya gun metal, while leaving others in black>dry brush with a metallic color, basically, have paint on a brush, remove almost all paint by brushing on paper, then brush the weapon. Try on leftover plastic before, so you can understand and adjust the amount of paint and pressure needed>like with these shotguns, l used a black gundam marker (not the panel lining one, the thick one) to give a second shade of black >when all is done, flat topcoatingJust the gun metal spray does a lot, just, dont use it on the whole weapon but just some parts of it
