Takara came up with a lot of gimmick ideas for Transformers, but according to Aaron archer, were a bit frustrated with how hard it was to fit these ideas into the Beast toys which are skinnier than vehicles on average. Hell. even the Autolauncher with a similar gimmick requires him to have a big torso to pull it off.
