>>5340977Another method is using gloss acrylic gel like modpodge. The basic idea is to paint a flat area in dark blues, greens, etc. Then brush on the gel (In wave like patterns). It dries clear and lets the painted color underneath show through while giving it a look of depth and texture. Do this for a couple coats to build it up. There are plenty of guides and videos out there on how to do it better than I explained in this post.
You can also lightly drybrush the surface in whites for wave foam.
