I've heard this narrative pushed for years and it always struck me as odd nobody called it out as BS. There is absolutely no direct connection between the origins of Transformers and GI Joe, not even with shared molds between the two lines, the only connection is Takara created Henshin Cyborg from GI Joe mold in addition to eventually making Microman and Diaclone (which themselves aren't directly connected to GI Joe). Why was this narrative so pushed? Its to the point that any time you talk about the origins of Transformers, this minor piece of novel trivia gets treated like important history.
