It is at least half notable that "Digital Monster" is always less pronounced than the VB name itself. Past Digimon V-pets definitely put the Digimon name more front and center. So it's possible they intended to branch out the VB brand elsewhere from the beginning.
The part that is strictly Digimon branded are the DIMs, since those are "Digimon Identified Memory" cards, and this

The part that makes me doubt that they wouldn't be compatible with the VBDM is that the single cards bundled with the new VBs are also sold separately. But I guess that could also just be so you can use Kuuga with the Ultraman VB and Tiga with the Rider one without buying both. Who knows.
