A lot of pieces usually fell to the floor, where I saw employees just sweep them up to toss them in a garbage bin. I asked an employee if I could keep them instead of them throwing it out and they said no. So I just picked up whatever pieces I saw on the floor to take home.
For bionicle in general I have pieces that I have no idea where they came from. I must of traded with friends or was given pieces by them.
