>>6727595I only build car kits, I think this was my 25th.
These paints aren't like typical hobbyist paints, they are very aggressive and will destroy bare plastic. Primer is a must and even then, if you go too heavy it will eat through. I've ruined 5 or 6 kits from just being undisciplined with my technique. Saying that, if you get it right, the look is fantastic
The best method is several cross-coats to maintain colour consistency until you get a shade you like. They dry semi-gloss so will require a clearcoat in order to achieve the glossy effect, or in this case, matt. For brighter colours use a white primer.
Both 2K gloss and matt are fairly easy to use, I usually mix about 5ml worth for a single car body and parts like wings etc. For gloss coats I usually mist a tack coat, let it gas for 5 minutes and follow it up with a wet coat. Cure time is around 72 hours at 20 degrees C. Any orange peel is micromesh sanded out and polished with compound.
For matt I mist again and then 3 cross coats, you don't need to apply wet coats. Cure was a lot quicker at something around 6 hours.
I clean all my equipment with toluene, which is cheap.
Safety is a must when using any of these products, I spray in a well ventilated area with a 3M respirator mask. I forgot my mask once when cleaning up with toluene and had a killer headache for like 2 days.
