im not sure i believe you about how well paid mercs were back then. looking at the equipment of landsknechts and swiss guards you can see almost a direct correlation where the higher paid officers and condottieri would wear more armor as they rose in rank and they were all footmen except for the colonels and lieutenant colonels.
im not saying the strategy was flawed. im saying that that point doesnt matter because the armor worn in that situation was irrelevant.
>>6278823but knights used the same weaponry like pole axes and halberds. and in the same way blunt weapons and heavy polarms are effective against armor so are slashing weapons like longswords effective against flesh.
