I found 2 things to be helpful:
1. Thinner strips of tape: if the tape stays flat it is much more likely to stick. In your case 1mm strips should work. Aizu Project makes those.
2. Masking fluid over the tape: when masking fluid dries it shrinks and presses the tape to the surface, stopping it from peeling.
